I would highly recommend Gentle Dental, Jamaica Plain. This office has been my dentist of choice for a number of years now and the reason is they provide high quality service in a professional, caring, and nurturing way. The receptionist that greet you are welcoming, friendly, and kind. My hygienist, Dee is exceptionally good, and makes sure all my dental concerns are addressed with the utmost professionalism, efficiency, and care.
I have been getting my dental care here at the clinic for about 20 years! the care has always been top-notch for me and i just keep coming back for my care here. staff are friendly and helpful when issues arise with billing etc. My hygienist is thoughtful and careful of my needs! and the Dr is also friendly and thorough too
Fantastic experience from the beginning. The front desk staff was amazing. The dental staff was outstanding. I was not the best patient for a few reasons, but the endodontist and assistant did a fantastic job doing a tough job. They were patient, professional and just nice. Highly recommend the facility.
The treatment recommended for your smile will depend on the concerns you want to address and the condition of your teeth and gums.
Professional teeth whitening can brighten natural teeth affected by staining from coffee, tea, tobacco, aging, and other factors.
Your dentist can evaluate the type of discoloration, review your history of tooth sensitivity, and determine whether professional whitening is appropriate. The Jamaica Plain office lists safe whitening treatments among its available cosmetic services.
Whitening products change the shade of natural teeth but do not change the color of crowns, veneers, fillings, bonding, bridges, or implant restorations. Your dentist will consider existing dental work when planning treatment.
Porcelain veneers are thin, custom restorations placed over the front surfaces of selected teeth. They may be considered for discoloration, small chips, minor gaps, worn edges, uneven shapes, or other cosmetic concerns.
The shape, size, shade, and proportions of the veneers can be planned to complement the surrounding teeth and overall smile. Gentle Dental Jamaica Plain specifically lists veneers among its available cosmetic services.
Veneers require careful evaluation because the teeth and gums must be healthy enough to support treatment. Your dentist will also assess your bite and any teeth-grinding habits that could affect the restorations.
A smile makeover combines two or more treatments to address several concerns through one coordinated plan.
Depending on your needs, a smile makeover may include:
Gentle Dental Jamaica Plain lists personalized smile makeovers alongside veneers and whitening as part of its cosmetic dentistry services.
Cosmetic dentistry may be appropriate when you are generally healthy but would like to improve one or more visible aspects of your smile.
Professional whitening may improve staining on natural teeth. Veneers, bonding, or crowns may be considered when discoloration is internal, severe, or unlikely to respond adequately to bleaching.
Minor chips may be treated with bonding or veneers. A crown may be recommended when a tooth has more extensive damage and needs additional structural support.
Small spaces may be improved with bonding or veneers. Invisalign or braces may be more appropriate when the spacing affects several teeth or involves the bite.
Bonding, veneers, or crowns can change the visible size, contour, length, or proportions of selected teeth.
Orthodontic treatment can gradually improve tooth alignment. Veneers may change the visible appearance of limited alignment concerns, but they do not physically reposition the teeth.
Worn tooth edges may be restored with bonding, veneers, crowns, or another treatment. Your dentist will first evaluate whether grinding, clenching, or bite problems contributed to the wear.
Dental implants, bridges, and removable dentures can replace missing teeth. Your dentist will compare the available options based on the number of missing teeth, gum health, jawbone, and treatment preferences.
Your consultation is an opportunity to explain what you like about your smile, what you would like to change, and what outcome you hope to achieve.
Your dentist will ask about your main concerns and priorities. You may want to improve a single tooth, brighten your entire smile, replace missing teeth, or coordinate several treatments.
Consider bringing photographs or examples that help communicate the type of result you prefer. Your dentist will explain what is realistically achievable based on your teeth and facial features.
Your dentist examines your teeth, gums, bite, existing dental restorations, and areas of concern.
Gentle Dental states that its cosmetic consultation process may include a complete oral exam, imaging, X-rays, and a personalized follow-up treatment plan.
Digital X-rays may be used to evaluate the tooth roots, bone, decay, previous dental work, or other concerns that are not visible during a clinical examination.
Gentle Dental Jamaica Plain is a modern, all-digital office that uses low-radiation X-rays and intraoral cameras for diagnostic evaluation.
Your dentist may evaluate how your teeth come together and whether grinding, clenching, crowding, or misalignment could affect cosmetic treatment.
Addressing functional concerns can help protect veneers, bonding, crowns, and other restorations.
Your dentist will compare the treatments that may address your concerns. The discussion may cover:
You will receive a treatment plan based on your oral health, cosmetic goals, timeline, and budget.
When several treatments are recommended, your dentist will explain the appropriate order. For example, whitening may be completed before selecting the shade of veneers, crowns, bonding, or other tooth-colored restorations.
Cosmetic treatment can address visible concerns involving tooth color, shape, spacing, alignment, damage, or missing teeth.
Your plan can focus on one tooth or coordinate improvements across the visible smile.
Every smile has different proportions, tooth shapes, shade characteristics, and alignment needs.
Your dentist develops a plan based on your specific concerns rather than applying the same treatment approach to every patient.
Some cosmetic treatments also restore damaged or weakened teeth. Crowns, bonding, fillings, inlays, and onlays may improve appearance while rebuilding lost tooth structure.
Implants, bridges, and dentures can complete the appearance of the smile while helping restore chewing and speaking function.
Invisalign or braces can gradually reposition teeth, address spacing or crowding, and improve the overall balance of the smile.
Improving a concern that makes you hesitant to smile may help you feel more comfortable in personal, professional, and social settings.
A smile makeover allows your dentist to plan several procedures together so that tooth shade, shape, alignment, and proportions are considered as part of one overall result.
The longevity of treatment depends on:
Whitening results may gradually fade and require touch-up care. Bonding may stain or wear over time. Veneers, crowns, bridges, implants, and orthodontic results may remain effective for many years with appropriate care, but no dental treatment should be considered permanent.
Brush twice daily with fluoride toothpaste and floss every day. Cleaning around veneers, crowns, bonding, bridges, implants, and natural teeth helps protect the supporting tooth and gum tissue.
Professional cleanings remove plaque and tartar that cannot be fully removed at home. Dental examinations also allow the team to monitor restorations for wear, damage, decay, or bite concerns.
Coffee, tea, red wine, dark soda, berries, and tobacco may gradually stain natural teeth and certain restorative materials.
Do not chew ice, pens, hard candy, or other objects that could chip or fracture teeth and restorations.
Grinding and clenching can place excessive force on bonding, veneers, crowns, implants, and natural teeth. Your dentist may recommend a night guard when signs of grinding are present.
Whitening, veneers, bonding, implants, orthodontics, and other treatments have different maintenance requirements. Follow the instructions provided by your Jamaica Plain dental team.
Gentle Dental Jamaica Plain provides preventive, restorative, cosmetic, orthodontic, and specialty services in one multi-specialty office. The practice uses digital X-rays and intraoral cameras and offers evening and Saturday appointments.
The Jamaica Plain office has received local Readers' Choice recognition and is located at 612 Centre Street, near public transportation and the St. John Street bus stop.
The cost of cosmetic dentistry depends on:
Many procedures completed primarily to improve appearance are considered elective and may not be covered by dental insurance. Treatments that also restore damaged teeth or improve oral function may qualify for partial coverage, depending on the plan.
Gentle Dental Jamaica Plain accepts most major dental insurance plans and provides payment options through CareCredit and Sunbit. The office can review estimated costs and financing options before treatment begins.

Professional whitening may improve many stains affecting natural teeth. Veneers, bonding, or crowns may be considered when discoloration does not respond adequately to whitening.
Minor chips may be treated with composite bonding or veneers. A crown may be more appropriate when the tooth has extensive structural damage.
Small gaps may be improved with bonding or veneers. Invisalign or braces may be recommended when several spaces are present or the gaps are related to tooth alignment.
Invisalign and traditional braces physically move teeth into improved positions. Veneers may change the visible appearance of selected teeth but do not provide orthodontic movement.
Yes. Tooth decay, gum disease, infection, and other active dental concerns generally need to be addressed before elective cosmetic treatment begins.
The level of discomfort depends on the procedure. Whitening and bonding usually require little or no tooth preparation, while veneers, crowns, implants, and other treatments may involve anesthesia or a recovery period.
The number of visits depends on the treatment. Whitening or bonding may require one visit, while veneers, crowns, implants, orthodontics, or a smile makeover may require several appointments.
Procedures performed only to improve appearance are commonly excluded from coverage. Treatments that also restore dental health or function may receive partial coverage, depending on your plan.
