What Are Dental Implants?

Dental implants

Dental implants are artificial roots and teeth (typically titanium) that are surgically placed into the upper or lower jawbone by a dentist, oral surgeon, or periodontist - a gum specialist. The “teeth” or crowns attached to implants are natural-looking and effectively enhance or restore your smile. In addition to replacing missing teeth, implants can also provide a fixed solution to removable partial or complete dentures. Implants provide excellent support and stability for these dental appliances and will last for years to come.

Our goal is to make your visit as comfortable as possible. We treat you like family and believe that your comfort is part of quality dental care.

The Benefits of Dental Implants

Dental implants are an excellent solution to:

  • Restore a confident smile
  • Improve chewing, speech, and digestion
  • Resolve bite
  • Problems caused by teeth shifting into a missing tooth space
  • Restore or enhance facial tissues
  • Support a bridge or denture, making them more secure and comfortable

If you are considering dental implants and want to know if they are right for you, the team at Gentle Dental would be happy to walk you through the process and details of dental implants as a restorative dental procedure.

Dental Implant Procedure

The process of dental implant placement requires several visits over a few months. X-rays and impressions (molds) of the jaw and teeth are taken to determine bone, gum tissue, and spacing available for an implant. The doctor will numb the area, and while it is numb, the implant will be surgically placed into the bone and allowed to heal and integrate itself. A second surgery may be required to place the “post” that will hold the artificial tooth in place.

After a few weeks of healing, the artificial teeth are made and fitted to the post portion of the anchor. After a healing period, the artificial teeth are securely attached to the implant, providing excellent stability and comfort to the patient. Many patients prefer dental implants as opposed to removable dentures.

Expected Flow:

  1. Placement
  2. Uncovering
  3. Restoration

You will receive care instructions when your treatment is completed. Good oral hygiene, eating habits, and regular dental visits will aid in extending the life of your new implant.

If you are interested in dental implant restoration, our team of dentists is here to ensure that your implants feel comfortable and natural, giving you a long-lasting smile that feels real and looks authentic.
