Gentle Dental Chelmsford Reviews

Saw the wonderful Dr. Desai today for a filling and a permanent crown. I would have walked out with a shade color difference and a less than perfect crown. She wouldn't let me she said she could see the difference and didn't like it. I have a little bit of a longer wait but it will definitely be worth it. She is definitely my 'Fairy Dentist'! The whole experience was enjoyable she and her assistant (so sorry I forgot your name) are a great duo!

Carlos Today I went to my appointment for a checkup because I was having some pain. I received excellent care. The dentist and the assistants provided outstanding service. They adjusted the filling on a tooth that had been bothering me. They are truly excellent dentists, and I highly recommend them. 10 out of 10!

What Is TMJ Disorder?

Temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disorder affects the joints and muscles that control jaw movement. These joints connect your jawbone to your skull and help you perform everyday activities like chewing, speaking, and yawning.

TMJ issues may develop due to teeth grinding, jaw injuries, stress, bite problems, or strain on the jaw muscles. Treatment focuses on addressing symptoms and improving jaw function based on your specific needs.

Common Symptoms of TMJ Disorder

TMJ concerns can cause a variety of symptoms that may affect your daily comfort. Common signs include:

  • Jaw pain or tenderness
  • Clicking, popping, or grinding sounds when opening or closing your mouth
  • Difficulty opening or moving your jaw
  • Facial pain or discomfort around the jaw area
  • Headaches or tension near the temples
  • Ear discomfort without an underlying ear condition
  • Pain while chewing

If you experience ongoing jaw discomfort or any of these symptoms, a dental evaluation can help determine the possible cause.

TMJ Treatment Options in Chelmsford, MA

Custom Night Guards for Teeth Grinding

Teeth grinding and clenching can place stress on the jaw joints and surrounding muscles. A custom night guard may help reduce pressure on your teeth and support a more comfortable jaw position while you sleep.

Personalized Bite Evaluation

Your dentist may evaluate your bite, jaw movement, and overall oral health to better understand factors contributing to TMJ discomfort.

Lifestyle and At-Home Recommendations

Depending on your symptoms, your dentist may recommend simple adjustments such as avoiding excessive jaw strain, practicing relaxation techniques, or making changes that support jaw comfort.

Referral for Advanced TMJ Care

For more complex TMJ concerns, your dentist may recommend working with additional specialists or exploring advanced treatment options.

Benefits of TMJ Treatment

Reduce Jaw Discomfort

TMJ treatment can help relieve jaw pain, tenderness, and muscle tension caused by issues affecting the temporomandibular joint. By identifying the underlying cause of discomfort, treatment may help reduce symptoms such as jaw soreness, stiffness, clicking, or difficulty opening and closing the mouth.

Improve Jaw Function

TMJ concerns can affect everyday activities such as chewing, speaking, and yawning. Proper evaluation and personalized treatment can help improve jaw movement, reduce strain on the joint, and make daily oral functions more comfortable.

Protect Your Teeth

TMJ-related issues are often connected with teeth grinding or clenching, which can place excess pressure on teeth and surrounding structures. Addressing these habits and reducing jaw strain can help minimize tooth wear, sensitivity, and the risk of damage over time.

Support Long-Term Oral Health

Early evaluation and treatment of TMJ symptoms can help manage discomfort before it becomes more challenging to address. Maintaining healthy jaw function can support overall oral health and help patients protect their teeth, muscles, and joints for the future.
