I truly can’t say enough great things about Dr. Israel, his assistant Lauren, and the hygienist Leah. From the moment I arrived, I felt welcomed and genuinely cared for. The entire team creates such a calm and positive atmosphere that it actually makes going to the dentist something I look forward to! Dr. Israel is an outstanding dentist — incredibly knowledgeable, gentle, and attentive. He takes the time to explain every step of the process and makes sure you’re completely comfortable before proceeding. His professionalism and kindness really stand out. Lauren, his assistant, is wonderful — always organized, supportive, and caring. She and Dr. Israel work together so smoothly, which helps everything go efficiently and stress-free. Leah, the hygienist, is amazing at what she does. She’s so thorough but also gentle, and she offers really helpful tips without ever making you feel judged. Her friendly and calm demeanor makes cleanings a breeze. This team is everything you could ask for in dental care: skilled, compassionate, and truly dedicated to their patients. I recommend them wholeheartedly!

I have terrible dental anxiety which kept me from going to a dentist for almost 10 years. I knew I needed a lot of work done so I finally made the appointment here at Gentle Dental and I’m SO glad I did. These people are so incredibly kind and compassionate. They weren’t judgmental or pushy. They explained everything to me in detail and didn’t make me feel bad or rushed. I had cavities filled today for the first time in over 10 years by Dr. Israel and his assistant Jalyn and it was as great an experience as one can have at the dentist. They were so kind and calming, took tons of breaks and checked in. Truly could not have had a better experience. I will recommend this place and specifically Dr. Israel and Jalyn to anyone who will listen!!

My visit to Gentle Dental was great. Dr. Entezari was super nice and friendly. He patiently listened to all my concerns and explained everything in detail. I asked a lot of questions as I am an engineer and curious. He answered all those questions very patiently and clearly. He is a very smart and talented dentist. He was able to polish my veneer in few minutes and I am very happy with the results. He is very experienced and skilled. He knows what he is doing. I will need to do filling on my teeth and he kindly fit me in his schedule on time. More importantly, he is caring, kind and loves to go beyond and that makes him special. Jalyn, his assistant was super nice and caring. She patiently took the X-Ray of my teeth and was speaking with me the entire time as a great host. She even took care of a wound on my finger that was bleeding for some reason. Not a tooth! Kindness is there. The staff at the front desk are also very nice, friendly and helpful. They are professional and explain things if there are any questions or concerns pertaining to the costs and insurance. Michelle, the office manager, is very nice and professional. She patiently explained to me why the new patient fee was not covered by my insurance since Aetna covered X-Ray only once every 5 years and I had used that once before seeing Gentle Dental. In conclusion, I strongly recommend Dr. Entezari and Gentle Dental folks as they are professional, caring, nice, kind, and helpful!

What Are Dental Fillings?

Dental fillings are restorative treatments used to repair teeth affected by decay, minor fractures, or wear.

  • They replace decayed or damaged tooth material
  • They restore normal chewing and biting function
  • They help prevent bacteria from causing further decay
  • They preserve as much of your natural tooth as possible

Fillings are a common and reliable solution for maintaining long-term oral health.

When Do You Need a Dental Filling?

You may need a dental filling if you experience any of the following:

  • Tooth sensitivity to hot, cold, or sweet foods
  • Pain or discomfort while chewing
  • Visible holes, cracks, or dark spots on a tooth
  • Food frequently getting stuck between teeth
  • A cavity detected during a routine dental exam

Early treatment with a filling can help avoid more complex procedures in the future.

The Dental Filling Procedure at Gentle Dental Rochester

Our dental filling process at Gentle Dental Rochester is designed to be efficient, gentle, and focused on your comfort while delivering reliable, long-lasting results.

Thorough Dental Examination

Your visit begins with a detailed dental exam to evaluate the affected tooth. The dentist checks for signs of decay, damage, or weakness and discusses symptoms you may be experiencing, such as sensitivity or discomfort.

Digital X-Rays for Accurate Diagnosis

If needed, digital X-rays are taken to determine the depth and spread of decay. These images help the dentist see areas not visible to the naked eye and ensure precise treatment planning while minimizing radiation exposure.

Local Anesthesia for Comfort

To keep you comfortable throughout the procedure, local anesthesia is administered to numb the area around the tooth. This helps ensure the treatment is smooth and pain-free.

Removal of Decayed Tooth Material

Once the area is numb, the dentist carefully removes the decayed or damaged portion of the tooth. This step is done with precision to preserve as much healthy tooth structure as possible.

Placement and Shaping of the Filling

After the decay is removed, the selected filling material is placed into the tooth. The dentist shapes the filling to match the natural contours of your tooth, restoring both function and appearance.

Polishing for a Natural Bite

The filled tooth is polished and adjusted to ensure a smooth finish and a comfortable bite. This helps prevent irritation and allows you to chew normally.

Types of Dental Fillings We Offer

We offer different filling materials based on tooth location, durability needs, and patient preference.

Composite (Tooth-Colored) Fillings

  • Blend naturally with your existing teeth
  • Ideal for visible teeth
  • Bond directly to the tooth for added strength
  • Popular for both front and back teeth

Amalgam Fillings

  • Extremely durable and long-lasting
  • Often used for molars and back teeth
  • Effective for areas with heavy chewing pressure

Temporary Fillings

  • Used when additional treatment is needed
  • Common for emergency visits or between procedures
  • Short-term solution until a permanent filling is placed

Your dentist will recommend the best option based on your dental needs.

Aftercare for Dental Fillings

Proper aftercare plays an important role in helping your dental filling last longer and function comfortably.

Avoid Chewing Until Numbness Wears Off

Wait until the numbness from anesthesia has completely faded before eating. This helps prevent accidentally biting your cheek, tongue, or lip.

Stick to Soft Foods Initially

If your mouth feels sensitive after the procedure, choose soft foods for the first day. Foods like yogurt, soup, or mashed vegetables can help reduce discomfort.

Brush and Floss Gently

Continue brushing and flossing as usual, but be gentle around the filled tooth for the first few days. Maintaining good oral hygiene helps protect the filling and surrounding teeth.

Avoid Hard or Sticky Foods

Hard foods, chewing ice, or sticky items like gum can place stress on a new filling. Avoid these foods initially to allow the filling to settle properly.

Watch for Sensitivity or Discomfort

Mild sensitivity to temperature or pressure is normal after a filling. If sensitivity persists, worsens, or feels unusual, contact your dentist for an evaluation.

Keep Up with Routine Dental Checkups

Regular dental visits help monitor the condition of your fillings and overall oral health. Early detection of wear or issues helps maintain long-term results.
